WEEKEND IN MATERA

3 days and 2 nights

Today, Matera is one of the most fascinating cities in Italy, internationally recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture. But it hasn’t always been this way: for a long time, the Sassi symbolized degradation and abandonment, until a major restoration brought them back to life. This three-day journey offers the chance to experience both sides of the city: the ancient, with rock churches and cave dwellings that tell a harsh and authentic story, and the contemporary, reborn through an extraordinary transformation. Completing the experience is the discovery of the Matera Murgia Park, revealing the wild landscape from which it all began.

Day #1: BARI AIRPORT – MATERA
Independent arrival at Bari Airport, meet your driver, and transfer to Matera. Upon arrival, enjoy a captivating evening tour of the famous Sassi. Walking at night through the narrow streets and small squares allows you to be enveloped by a suspended atmosphere, where today’s silence evokes the bustle and vibrant life that once filled this place.

Day #2: MATERA
The morning is dedicated to a guided tour exploring the city’s most authentic sites: rock churches and cave dwellings that tell centuries of history. In the afternoon, take a short trip outside Matera to reach the so-called “Sistine Chapel of the rock churches,” the Church of Original Sin, an extraordinary site nestled in the ravine, home to frescoes that have withstood the passage of time.

Day #3: MATERA – BARI AIRPORT
Before departure, the day begins with a visit to the Matera Murgia Regional Park. Walking among canyons and plateaus offers a deeper understanding of the landscape that shaped the city, while also providing one of the most breathtaking views: the entire panorama of the Sassi unfolding before your eyes. At the end of the visit, transfer to Bari Airport.

End of services.
