TOUR OF BASILICATA

TOUR OF BASILICATA

5 days and 4 nights

A 5-day journey to discover Basilicata, a captivating region rich in history, nature, and traditions. From the spectacular Lucanian Dolomites to charming medieval villages, you will explore unique places such as the ghost town of Craco, the mysterious volcanic lakes of Monticchio, and the fascinating artworks of Irsina. Between tastings of local wines and cheeses, ancient rock settlements, and breathtaking landscapes, this tour will guide you through an experience that blends past and present, reaching Matera and Gravina—emblems of the rock civilization.

Day #1: BARI AIRPORT – GRAVINA IN PUGLIA
Independent arrival at Bari Airport and transfer to Gravina for hotel check-in.

Day #2: CASTELMEZZANO – CRACO
In the morning, departure to the most beautiful village in Basilicata: Castelmezzano. Nestled at the foot of the Lucanian Dolomites, it offers an incredibly scenic landscape; during the warmer months, the “Flight of the Angel” is possible. In the afternoon, continue to the Lucanian Badlands to visit the ghost town of Craco.

Day #3: VENOSA – MONTICCHIO LAKES – RIONERO IN VULTURE
Venosa is the city of the great poet Horace, the Altavilla family, the Templars, and Gesualdo. The journey continues to Vulture to discover the Monticchio Lakes, with a medieval abbey overlooking the lake. The day ends with a relaxing wine tasting at the Vulture wineries.

Day #4: IRSINA – PIETRAGALLA – ACERENZA
Early in the morning, departure to the ancient village of Irsina, recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Here, you will find high-quality artworks such as statues by Mantegna and frescoes of the Giotto school. The second stop is the Palmenti of Pietragalla, a landscape that could rival scenes from The Lord of the Rings. The final stop is the town of Acerenza, known for its glorious past and its alpacas.

Day #5: MATERA – GRAVINA IN PUGLIA
On the last day, check-out and departure to Matera, the beautiful city of the Sassi, where time seems to have stood still. In the afternoon, reach its “younger sister,” Gravina in Puglia, a city with a rich rock heritage and a notable noble history. Here, there will be a cheese tasting in a cave where the cheeses are aged 14 meters below ground level. The final destination is Bari, the capital of Puglia, with return to the airport or train station.

End of services.
