7 days and 6 nights

A 7-day journey to discover Lucania, a region that enchants with the variety of its landscapes: vast stretches of green, ravines sculpted by the wind, the rugged Lucanian Dolomites, and the silent Murgia. It is a land that still bears the marks of neglect, yet gradually reveals its essence, as in Matera, which has reemerged from the shadows through the power of stone and light. In Lucania, every gaze becomes a memory, and every step carries the taste of a return.

Day #1: BARI AIRPORT – GRAVINA
Independent arrival at Bari Airport, car rental, and transfer to Gravina for hotel check-in.

Day #2: GRAVINA – ALTAMURA
In the morning, visit Gravina in Puglia, a city carved into the soft calcarenite rock. In the afternoon, transfer to Altamura for lunch and a visit to the “City of Bread.” Return to the hotel.

Day #3: VENOSA – MONTICCHIO LAKES – RIONERO
Transfer to Venosa for a guided tour of the hometown of the Latin poet Horace, with stops at the Roman archaeological site and the evocative Unfinished Basilica. In the afternoon, continue to the Monticchio Lakes, followed by a visit to a winery in Rionero. Return to the hotel.

Day #4: GROTTOLE – FORENZA
A day dedicated to discovering rural Lucania, authentic and genuine. In Grottole, meet local initiatives engaged in social projects aimed at countering urban depopulation. Then visit Forenza, known as the “Mosaic Village.”

Day #5: CASTELMEZZANO – CRACO
Castelmezzano is one of the most characteristic villages of the Lucanian mountains and is listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of Italy.” Its fame is mainly due to the spectacular scenery of the Little Lucanian Dolomites. Along with the evocative ghost town of Craco, these two villages are true gems of Basilicata.

Day #6: PICCIANO – MATERA
Early in the morning, visit the Sanctuary of Picciano, located on a hill along the road to Matera. Continue to the “City of the Sassi,” one of Italy’s wonders, with its extraordinary rock heritage.

Day #7: BARI AIRPORT
After check-out, depart for Bari Airport and return the vehicle.
